Welcome to the German Saturday School Tonbridge

Entirely parent-run, our school is the brainchild of Kent-based German parents of bilingual and multilingual children. The aim of the school is to pass on the parents’ mother tongue and culture to the next generation of their family. But we’re by no means a Germans-only-club: Some of our parents are Swiss or even Britons who, having lived in one of the German-speaking countries for a few years, would like to give their children the opportunity to practice the language they’d had such a hard time learning! What they all have in common are children who attend English schools and who are encouraged to speak German at home.

The school is a non-profit organisation and is financed solely by the parents.

And like all German Saturday Schools in Britain, Tonbridge is a member of the VDSS, the Organisation of German Saturday Schools, an umbrella body with close links to the Goethe Institute in London and to the German Embassy.
